What is your practice routine like?
When I first got serious about guitar (my 2nd year of playing) I started practicing 6-8 hours a day. I split that up into hour segments, with a 15 minute break each hour... so play for 45 minutes, break for 15. The first hour would be spent on warm up exercises and rhythm playing. Then I spent an hour each on arpeggios, scales & scale patterns, speed exercises, legato exercises, improvisation, and soloing (not necessarily in that same order every day though). I occasionally added new things to the mix to keep from getting bored. And sometimes I just blew off the whole routine and would spend the entire day just working on learning a new song & solo!

Eventually, however, my practice time went down to a more manageable 4-5 hours a day. And in the past few years, since putting out my first CD, I have been practically working full time at the business end of music, and so the practicing has gone down to about an hour or two a day (if I'm lucky)....with the exception of times when I'm concentrating on writing or recording an album, at which point I specifically let everything else slide so that I can do 3-4 hours a day minimum.

How do you get your lead sound?
I boost the mids, cut back on the distortion, and add about a 400 second delay with one repeat, mixed low so it's not too obvious; I also use a little reverb. Click here to view the specs from my Rocktron Voodoo Valve!

Do you teach private lessons?
No, not anymore.

Who are your main influences?
I've had a bunch of influences over the years. When I first began playing I was totally into Eddie VH. The following year I discovered Yngwie, and he was a major influence on my playing for a number of years. By 1987 I was also heavily into George Lynch, Paul Gilbert, and Vinnie Moore. By the early 90's I was moving a little away from the neo-classical style and Nuno was my new idol. Then I discovered Dream Theater and John Petrucci, and nobody's replaced him as of yet in my mind!

What sort of music do you enjoy listening to?
Anything that has good songwriting. I like lots of the "newer rock" like Tool, Sevendust, Incubus, Days of the New, Creed -- to name a few. I'm still heavily into Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment. I'm a big Alanis Morrisette fan too. Strangely enough I rarely listen to instrumental music other than LTE and the occasional Steve Vai CD.

How do you pronounce your last name?
Foucher is pronounced "FOO-SHAY"
(not "fow-chur" or "foo-chur" or even "foo-ker" and definately not "foo-shwaaa", as many have often mistaken.)
